Stop Making New Year's Resolutions
- A statistic I saw found that 80% of New Year's resolutions FAIL by February - YES you read that correctly, FEBRUARY!! The main reason why these resolutions fail is because they have NO MEANING. They are just shooting their shot at a target they can't even see. All you are doing at that point is setting yourself up for consistent FAILURE. You should be making ACHIEVABLE and MEANINGFUL goals, NOT "New Year's resolutions." Not having goals is like walking on a treadmill - you feel like you are moving but yet you are going NOWHERE.
- You should be making a COMMITMENT to a LIFELONG change, NOT a temporary change. These changes need to be a CONSISTENT building of habits day after day, week after week. Not just at the beginning of every year and lasting for just a few months.
- Too often we think of success as a destination. My friends, success IS NOT a destination. Success IS the journey. In order to set yourself up for consistent success, you need to be making small achievable goals. I want you to envision a staircase that has 100 steps. Now envision how you are going to get up that 100 step staircase. Are you going to do it in one big leap? Or take it step by step?
- Give yourself a chance. ACHIEVABLE goals = CONSISTENT success. If you question whether a goal is achievable, then that goal is most likely not achievable in THAT MOMENT. SET a goal, COMMIT to that goal, STAY DISCIPLINED in the process of that goal, WORK HARD towards that goal, and then REPEAT those steps for the next goal. Next thing you know, you'll be standing on top of that staircase.
