Top 3 Fit-Mas Gifts to Spread Holiday Cheer
It’s officially the holiday season, and at one thing I get asked about every year is:
“what do you get someone who likes to workout?”
It can be a really tough thing to shop for someone else. Thankfully, at Precision Training, we went the extra mile yet again and made sure ‘Ol Saint Nick proofread our holiday gift guide.
Santa wisely suggested gifts that are practical and pretty cool for first time worker-outers and hardened fitness enthusiasts alike.
Here’s our Top 3 Recommendations this Fit-Mas!
1. Headphones = Apple Airpod Pro Headphones
Price = $199.00 at Walmart (cheapest I’ve seen them)
Standout Feature
The Active Noise Cancelling is life changing and I believe so many parents could save so much money on wine if they bought these
Who is this present for?
This is a great present for someone who has an iphone, who likes to workout whether its a walk, jog, or run, a virtual training class, or a crossfit workout in your garage.
I’m not sure how they operate with an Android device. Paired with an Iphone the experience is seamless.
Why are headphones #1?
More and more people are choosing to live the social part of their lives virtually. A pair of headphones may seem like too personal a thing to select for someone else, but so many people are looking for a quality pair that look and feel good. Getting your money’s worth is the least of your worries with these, since they’re great for both work and working out. A purchase this expensive isn’t for your burpee buddy on Zoom, but it is a really great present from one family member to another if you can afford it. If someone got these for me before I got them for myself… I’d swear that person was Santa!
2. Watch + Fitness Monitor + Personal Reminders = Apple Watch
Price = $349 at Wal-Mart (cheapest I’ve seen it)
Standout Feature
The 3 Rings!! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at my watch only to see I have not closed all 3 of my Fitness Rings. Type A personalities will either love this feature, or break the watch in the first week. As simple of a concept as the 3 rings feature is, the best part about it is: the watch reminds you to try to close your rings. It will send you non-threatening reminders that closing your rings is a good thing for you and the coolest part is comparing your stats to other people who have Apple Watches too.
Who is this present for?
It's overall a great fitness tool that allows a first time worker-outer the flexibility to define their exercise outside of an elliptical or even a gym for that matter. Options for exercise include everything from an Indoor Walk to Downhill Skiing!
For the everyday fitness enthusiasts, it's one way you can gauge your training intensity. Checking how many calories you burned, your average Heart Rate while training, and how long it took you to recover are all stats you can see on the Apple Watch.
Apple Again? Why is Apple Watch #2?
Motivation is great, and a shiny new fitness toy has the ability to motivate anyone to workout at least once. The great thing I’ve noticed about the Apple Watch is that when people stop working out, I’ve noticed they stop wearing their watch. Whether it's the notifications from their friends & family members closing their rings and completing workouts, or if it's just not their cup of tea, I have noticed an interesting correlation between people's fitness consistency and wearing the Apple Watch.
Before we go to #3, I feel it's important to note that buying workout shoes for someone who is really INTO working out, is like trying to make dinner for a world class chef. Just know ahead of time that even IF you are buying a pair of shoes for your son or daughter cause they’re really INTO this crossfit stuff, it is highly likely you will never pick the right pair for them, even if they’re functionally perfect and molded from their own feet. It's just a thing.
That being said, there are shoes for running, shoes that are great for training, and shoes that are meant for looks that people will take selfies in while at the gym but not working out for some reason. Check out the top picks for yourself and see if they can meet your friend or family member’s Fit-Mas needs.
Santa’s picks for this year's top: Running, Training, & Lifestyle Fitness Shoes.
3.1 Running Shoes = ON Running Shoes
Price Range = $120 - $200
3.2 Training Shoes = Nike Metcon Sport - Fun Fact: a ginormous friend of mine has these and loves them for crossfit and powerlifting. I have not tried them
Price = $60 - $100
Tuesday, I’ll be posting about all the workout gear: dumbbells, barbells, bikes, and more!
3.3 Lifestyle Training Shoes = Nobull Shoes
Price = $100 - $200
Nobull’s are a great shoe to train in and I think they look great too. I like the fact that they have a flat bottom which makes them great for certain types of lifts but also look and feel good when you’re on the go. I think Nobull has done something really cool with their product. They made one. The Nobull Trainer isn’t “The Pro”. It’s the same shoe every time you buy it. Each year you’ve bought them, they didn’t add a pump or a strap. They just made it different colors. That to me says, “We stand behind our product”. Lets see if they can one day find a way to make it better. Till then, keep takin selfies!
In closing out today’s post, I think it’s important to note that how a gift is given is way more impactful than the gift itself. People appreciate being heard. This holiday season you might feel like it's impossible to connect to others they way you’d like. But which is stronger?
Your frustration with the problems this year has brought?
Or your desire to give the right gift in the right way?
I’d encourage everyone to spend time and listen to what the others are saying. This time of year can be challenging for so many and sometimes the greatest gift you can give is presence.
